What is BPA?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic compound that has subtly weaved its way into our daily lives. Originally synthesized in the late 19th century, it wasn't until the 1950s that BPA became dominant in the plastics industry. Since then, BPA has become an essential ingredient in crafting polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, granting them the durability, clarity, and resilience we've come to rely on. These qualities have catapulted BPA into many applications, from plastic containers and dental sealants to canned food and, of particular concern, water bottles.
Yet, with the ascent of BPA's industrial utility has come a rising tide of concerns about its widespread presence. Its pervasive nature means we're frequently in contact with products that contain BPA, often without our knowledge.
